A Tribute to David Foster Wallace

A tribute to David Foster Wallace

Author, philosopher, good man

Died September 12, 2008

To read his commencement speech at Kenyon, go to http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122178211966454607.html, or buy his book "So This is Water".

I don't know a lot about David yet. I only recently began to read him, so I invite you to find out more . Wikipedia has an entry, and NPR " All Things Considered" http://www.wpr.org/book/10book3.cfm#september had a touching one-hour tribute that included excerpts from his commencement address at Kenyon , and a moving interview with his sister.
Things I do know:

I read an excerpt from one of his books, " A Fun Thing I Will Never Do Again", an account of his experience as a passenger on a luxury cruise. Very insightful and philosophical.

He was a good friend of Jonathan Franzen, another favorite author.

I listened to his commencement speech on a Sunday morning. This was more meaningful than all of the sermons I've listened to up till now. All church-goers should be able to hear such moving thoughts as they attempt to stay focused on the message.
